Interview Tips
Don't just show up for the interview, you need to do your homework in order to "ace" the interview.
- Practice makes perfect! One way you can prepare before an interview is to practice answering some popular interview questions. See the sample questions to help you prepare.
- Research the company. Know their mission and products or services they provide.
- Arrive approximately 15 minutes before your interview time. Be sure to get clear directions to the interview site. You may want to visit the interview site before hand to plan on parking and to estimate drive times, etc.
- Dress appropriately for the interview. It's best to dress conservatively. You want the interviewer to focus on you and your answers and not be distracted by your attire.
- Bring additional copies of your resume and work samples.
- It only takes approximately 20 seconds to make a first impression. Put your best foot forward by smiling and extend your hand to make a good firm handshake.
- Make eye contact. Eye contact is a form of communication and a way to build rapport. Make eye contact with your interviewer both when you're talking and when he's talking.
- Be honest. Never lie or exaggerate about your experience.
- Have a positive attitude and believe in yourself.
- Know your strengths and weaknesses.
- Don't criticize others.
- Don't forget to ask your own questions. An interview is a conversation not an interrogation. Questions should flow both ways. By asking questions it shows that you have a true interest in the organization.
- Thank the interviewer for their time and don't forget to ask for the job.
- After the interview follow up with a thank you note.
